Okay. Here's my thing.
One of my early office jobs came with 5 sick days and 10 vacation days, with no option to WFH, though it would have been possible to WFH.
I cannot tell you how many times I sent my kids to school/daycare with the sniffles because I *could not* 1/.

Afford to take a day off with my sick kid. I went into work with a GD fever at one point because I had to hoard my sico and vacation time for days when I couldn't get away with sending the kids in sick.

"Don't send your kids sick"?
And it's not because parents are bad. It's because workplaces are stingy with time off, flexible work schedules, flexible work locations, and health insurance.
AND workplaces are stingy with those resources because they are ALLOWED TO BE. 3/

Our current economic system is based largely on forcing workers to accommodate the companies they work for at any cost, because losing a job often doesn't just mean losing an income. It's losing health insurance.
If we want to safely repopen schools, we should be having a serious conversation about how paid sick leave, health care, and flexible work schedules must factor into all of this. 5/
Otherwise parents are going to be forced into the option of rolling the dice when their kids are sick, because they can't afford a day off. Further, they definitely can't afford the two-week quarantine necessary if someone in their family tests positive for COVID. 6/
TLDR; if we don't fix the fundamental problems with labor in this country, there is no way to safely open schools. FIN/
