Peter Beinart emphatically supported the Iraq War because he thought it would boost his influence as a public intellectual in DC. any concern for the Iraqi people was accidental at best and Beinarts words helped bring them to catastrophe.
i actually am not sure if there is any sufficient apology for rallying on the greatest human tragedy of the 21st century, but if there was Beinart has not made it. if one were perhaps a bit cynical they might regard his vocal opinions on Palestine as a shield for past conduct!
Beinart went to one of the most well-endowed and prestigious prep schools in Boston. he went to Yale and after Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. he then was immediately fast-tracked to editor at the new republic. it would be difficult to find a more class-privileged white American man
and yet somehow when people (very often Palestinians) call out this dudes continued repellant presence as a figure of influence in Jewish progressive spaces people start complaining about how this is toxic dudebro culture or whatever. lol fuck that
and btw once again if i were to be cynical a lot of the people who feel the need to speak up for poor Peter seem to be people in Jewish media or institutional positions that stand to benefit from keeping good terms with a powerful guy like him. i see you motherfuckers
