I don't often read the news nor Twtr lately. But is there any debate abt Messi's level under Setién? I think there should be one. We don't even have the occasional hattrick now. What is it in Setién's system that makes it harder for Messi to shine like he used to under Valverde?
So the general consensus seems to be that Messi has to perform too many tasks under Setién (compared to his time under Valverde, Messi drops deeper & has wider area of influence as proved by heatmaps, and has to press more often) 1/x
and all of that may be preventing him from having the necessary mental clarity when it comes to scoring, as it's proved by his statistics since he's underperforming his xG for the 1st time since like forever. Good explanation 👌🏽
