As @Miss_Snuffy said on the Filling The Pail podcast, nobody goes into teaching because they want to control kids and make them obedient, they go into teaching because they want to save the world . They want to walk the corridors chatting about Aristotle to students 1/4
Then, when they go and teach in a disadvantaged school, reality hits them hard. That’s when they need practical advice like the kind you find in @Doug_Lemov’s Teach Like A Champion. 2/4
I sometimes wonder whether the split is between those who hold onto to the ideal of chatting about Aristotle - maybe because they never taught or because they taught for a couple of years in an easy school - and those who are doing the work in challenging circumstances 3/4
“Why are you so keen on the kids being obedient?” Asks the first group. “Because we want them to be safe, free from bullying and have the opportunity to learn afforded to more advantages kids,” replies the second group 4/4
