Just incredible that @jkenney wants new coal mining in foothills/mountains which all done with diesel powered equipment & has continued to close prairie mines where most of the overburden is moved with electricity powered draglines - https://twitter.com/rachelnotley/status/1281966732421345280
Reclamation at prairie mines leaves the land in better shape than before mining it, more birds & other wildlife on the reclaimed land than before. How do you have anything but an environmental mess in trying to reclaim a mountain mine where everything is blasted &
- hauled away to dump area, all on a hill/mountain side... how does that get properly reclaimed with vegetation established & no erosion in steep foothill/mountain areas? So shutting down viable mining operations of prairie mines at several coal communities to import -
- huge blocks of electricity 24/7 mainly from Montana & B.C., eliminating hundreds & hundreds of jobs to import coal fired power... that makes no sense!! And then decide to follow B.C. encouraging more mountain mining in environmentally sensitive areas where reclamation is hard -
I thought Rachel had a monopoly on stupidity when it comes to coal mining/phaseout... but @jkenney finishing the prairie coal mining phaseout & then wanting new export coal mines in sensitive mountain areas is insane
