I’m glad all these conversations and points are being brought up about schools reopening in the fall. But also consider that childcare centers are CURRENTLY open and dealing with all this stuff in real time. We get left out of the picture a lot.
The same questions that people are asking about k-12 schools are still relevant to our centers. Even more so. Right now we have teachers wearing masks but not kids, temperature checks each day for staff and kids, increased cleaning/sanitizing and as much social distancing as poss
Parents aren’t allowed in the classroom and must wear a mask and pickup in the hallways. We wash our hands a lot. I still feel like it’s only a matter of time before we see a case.
The governor asked childcare centers to remain open so that essential workers can still work. But we definitely aren’t just enrolling kids of essential workers.
We have way more close contact with children than k-12 teachers do, since they’re so little (infants to 4yrs)
Many centers were closed for April and May, but reopened not because it was suddenly safe, but because of the economy. We aren’t getting stimulus checks anymore, and unemployment runs out soon.
Sooo if you wanna know the answers to the questions about opening schools in August, look at childcare centers right now. They’re doing it and, like I said, it’s only a matter of time before we have cases.
Germs spread like wildfire through schools. Ask any teacher. We get sick all the time, in ideal conditions. I’m back at work so I can make ends meet and because I love my job and my kids. But that doesn’t mean I’m not terrified.
