This is a good thread. I’m not a Libertarian Party member & I stay out of its infighting, so I wasn’t engaged on the matter he’s highlighting here. But Jon makes several critical points about how movement libertarians ought to assess their priorities related to questions of race. https://twitter.com/blanksslate/status/1281984653621186562
If your first reaction to slogans like “black lives matter” & “anti-racism” is to tie ALL of the people invoking them to the most radical activists involved, you’ve lost the plot. As libertarians, we need to share our work on police brutality, etc, not quibble about differences.
There’s no contradiction in critiquing the most radical race essentialists like DiAngelo & Kendi while making common cause with activists who think black lives matter (of course they do!) and who want to be anti-racist. Be part of the discussion TO drown out the leftist radicals.
I actively want the people rightly concerned about racism and police brutality to adopt the pluralistic and liberal approach that I believe works best for society. If I and other libertarians disengage from the conversation and leave it to radical race essentialists, we all lose.
