Books are great and I do agree most of us here would benefit from reading more. That being said, anime is still a medium with absolutely amazing stuff that can be considered peak fiction. Anime can explore many possibilities that would be plainly impossible in a book. Visual storytelling, direction, voice acting, animation, shot composition are aspects that books don't have, and that create many different types of narratives that books wouldn't be able to have

Stories like Serial Experiments Lain or Angel's Egg could never be replicated just through words, and I very much think they can be considered peak fiction

It's just that every medium has strengths and weaknesses. They all complement each other and do stuff the others can't

I definitely think anitwitter would be a richer and nicer space if we could all discuss books from time to time, but going and saying that anime can't be peak fiction makes you look like a pretentious boomer
