Then keep scrolling throught this thread LOVATICS⬇️
As you may know, "Sorry Not Sorry" was written by Demi, Oak Felder, Sean Douglas, Trevor Brown and Zaire Kolao.

Its main producer was Oak 🎛🎚

The song was released on July 11, 2017, through Island Records as the lead from her sixth studio album, "Tell Me You Love Me".
🔸"Sorry Not Sorry" was written in just 30 MINUTES!!

"I was already a fan of Demi because I love vocals. First day all sitting in the room, 30 minutes later Sorry Not Sorry is written, that's how quick it was." - @Oakwud
🔸Lets start now with some indeep productiom processes 🎛

Demi wanted to have a soulful vibe. Oak thought it was a natural fit because her voice is "fantastic". But he didn't know anything else, he had "no idea about what to expect before she walked through the door". 😳
🔸Demi played Oak her material and then they started from zero with the core progression he had in mind.

Initially it was going to be a piano progression 🎹

Anyway the rest of the people in the studio gave no response, and Oak was terrified...😅

This was the initial sound:
🔸After that absence of response Oak was surfing for different sounds and, as a pure accident, he clicked on the 808 bass.

In the moment he hitted the key Demi went: "WOO YEAH, YEAH, LIKE THAT, EXACTLY!!" 👏🏼🤩

This was the original 808 core progression, feel that power!!
🔸After getting everyone's attention, Oak added a snap 💢 and some texture to the 808.

And that's "literally" what the whole song was written to.

It makes you wana dance right? Have a listen to it and use headphones for a better experience 🎧🎚
🔸As you can appreciate, this wasn't the final sound.

The "Pizzicato Wet Cave" is the responsible for Sorry Not Sorry's final and actual sound.

Such a great vibe, yeah!! 😌
🔸Lets put it all together, with some mix, reverb and some tricks, plus de kick or snaps 💢... and there we go!

This is going soooo good 🎚🎛
🔸Now that the base is set, how did the song title came out?

"A song is a conduit of emotions from one person to another... but it has to be a snapchat of a moment". - @Oakwud 🗣

Demi was "tired of being apologetic".

That morning, Oak was "arguing" with his wife 😅🙄... +
She said something that pissed him off. Thing was:

🧔🏾 "I don't like what you just said, I demand that you apologize".
👩🏾 "No, I'm not going to apologize and I'm not going to apologize about not offering an apology either..."
🧔🏾 "...are you telling me you're SORRY NOT SORRY??" 🤯
🔸Now we have the base, the tittle and the lyrics, it's time for the vocals.

To start, that "GO!" at the beginning of the song is something Oak used in a lot of his productions, like "Your Love" by Nicki Minaj.

It's something that set tone for the music! 📢🔊😎
🔸Demi "wanted a featured choir", but they didn't have one and the recording time was limited 😢.

So, all the people in the room (4 + Demi) started singing the vocals at the same time. 🧔🏾🧔🏿👨🏽‍🦱🧑🏼💁🏻‍♀️

Listen to this cause it's so funny! Can you make out Demi's voice?
🔸This improvised choir stacked enough times + reverb + harmonies lead to the final result:

🗣 that 🗣 baby.
Better🚶‍♂️, better🚶‍♂️ that🚶‍♂️baby.🔸
🔸And now lets put it all together:
Choir voices🗣 + 808🔊 + kicks💢 + cords🎶

¡ I N S A N E !
🔸Demi's vocals time!

Next day, Demi "cut it for real and it sounded amazing, sound of glorious, she sound really good on it".

"I tend to be a little bit perfectionist when it comes to vocals cause I'm such a fan of it. I tend to be very meticulous, luckily Demi is too". 😌👌🏼
"She did it maybe perfectly after the second pass". - @Oakwud

🔸Demi recorded the vocals for "Sorry Not Sorry" (and more songs for her last album) with the microphone Braumer VM1 (5.198€). 🎙
"It was a blast to record, like being in a theme park... there're certain vocalists that do go in the room and it's like, OK, this's gona take some work to make sure it sounds exactly the way it leads to." - @Oakwud

😬😬😅😅
"Demi is one of those people who when she goes into the booth it becomes a problem, because she'll do 6 passes and they're all fantastic, and it's like... pick one!". - @Oakwud

🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♀️🔟🎙

For that they tried with different emotions, so they could decide which one is the best.
🔸"Sorry Not Sorry's" full production has 7️⃣6️⃣ tracks, including the 808 bass, chorus, kicks/snaps, vocals, etc.
🔸Listen to Sorry Not Sorry's first verse without ANY effects, only Demi's clean voice (+some reverb at the end).

This is SO hypnotic 😍
🔸Lets talk about backgrounds now.

You remember that "Wait a minute" background on the song... well... it's OAK singing it with an autotune program. 😱

Look, here's the real cut of him:
🔸There're also some backgrounds sung by Demi on the "Pay back is a bad b*ch" part. 😏

Listen to them now so you can realize:
🔸Do you remember the response on the chorus?

💁🏻‍♀️ Baby I'm sorry 💁🏻‍♀️
🗣I'M NOT SORRY 🗣

Well, Demi was singing it too 🎙:
🔸But that response is also made by Oak, Trevor, Zaire and Sean, struggling to get as high as Demi did.

This creates like a crowd dynamic. That's exactly what they wanted to be live with the audience (lovatics). 🎶

Do you feel like you have to sing THAT? I DO. 🕺🏻💃🏻
🔸And what about some blinding low octaves? 🎚

Did you realize them when you listen to the song?

Cool trick 🧐
Now that you know of its existence try to hear it in the original version. 🎧

Can you do it? It's a little bit difficult but they're still there 😂😂
I'm finishing soon, promise 😅

🔸Oak's favourite backgrounds vocals of "Sorry Not Sorry" are in the second half of the second verse (the technicolor one). 🌈

Lets remember it before the background take out:
And finally just a few words said again by @Oakwud himself:

"To me, listening to a song is like being at a concert where the singer is standing right in front of you instead of on stage. All the background vocals are far away, the lead singer is sitting right in front of you".👏🏼
If you got here thank you so much for supporting this thread, it takes too long for me to make it.
Thank you so much! 😊

And now I dare you to listen again to "Sorry Not Sorry" and see if you get all these details above.

Good luck 😜
MISSED TWEET⬇️

🔸This's Oak's favourite part because "It's like one of those things that's felt not heard... but I know that it's there, and it's beautiful and I know that that detail exists, and that adds to the overall energy of the song."

Is like a f*king auditory orgasm👂🏼
