(Thread) Why Luke’s character isn’t ruined in The Last Jedi:

Luke skywalker son of the chosen one anakin skywalker. Many people believe this boy is the perfect Jedi which he is not, and I’m about to explain why.
We fast forward to the moment Luke goes to yoda in ROTJ where he asked Yoda if it’s true, is Darth Vader really Luke’s father, he finds out its true and that Leia is his sister. He must protect his sister and free the galaxy from this darkness that Vader and palpatine caused.
Yes Luke can feel the conflict within Vader, but that doesn’t mean Luke wasn’t able to kill him. In the battle with Vader Luke goes full on Vader and keeps striking his lightsaber against Vader, and he was able to cut on of vaders hands of, thats when he realizes that
what he is doing is wrong he stops fighting Vader, which leads to the famous scene where palpatine gets “killed” by Vader. Luke skywalker did it, he defeated the empire and they galaxy would soon be free.

Now why is all of this important you might ask
we all know this we’ve all seen the movie. But this fight is very important to Luke’s character in TLJ, Luke had a dark moment while attacking Vader, and realized that what he was doing was wrong, if Luke kept going I’m sure he would have killed Vader.
Now we are finally getting into the last Jedi

Luke felt there was darkness within Ben, and he thought the best way to stop that would be killing Ben, so he went over to Ben’s hut and ignited his lightsaber. And on that moment Luke realized what he was about to do was wrong
unfortunately for Luke Ben woke up. And we all know what happened after that.

Now why Luke is hiding is pretty simple to see:
Luke is basically a mix between Yoda and Kenobi at the end of ROTS. Luke has failed his “apprentice” just like obi wan and he’s in pain because of that.
Yoda failed the entire Jedi order by not killing palpatine and the event of order 66, so he went into hiding because he’s ashamed he could not live up to his own explanations. Just like Yoda, Luke felt ashamed, he couldn’t live up to the expectations everyone had from him
he’s the man who got rid of the empire and the Sith Lords, but Luke failed to protect the new Jedi order, his nephew and he failed himself. That’s why Luke went into hiding. And this is why I think he’s character isn’t ruined.
