Shoutout to all of the @CA_DMV workers at the San Diego Normal Street location. Can’t even begin to imagine how difficult their job is these days. W/ all of my documents pre-scanned & approved, I arrived at 7:45 a.m. yesterday morning in hopes that the lines would be short 1/5
/5 w/ them opening at 8:00. I found two lines—one w/ 150-200 or so people all lined up at an appropriate social distance stretching around the entire structure, parking lots & surrounding block. & one w/ about 15 lined up w/ appointments & documents pre-approved. Luckily, that
/5 was my line. I watched as they went out pro-actively through the longer line, asking & answering questions. When someone in line spoke a language other than English they regularly went back into the building & returned w/ a colleague out who could better communicate w/ them
/5 It still took me about 40 minutes to get in & out w/ my new, REAL ID/license. I know it took hours for those in the other line. I also know from the DMV team member I spoke w/ that as the day gets hotter & the line gets longer, those walking in the door are more frustrated,
/5 angry, & likely to take it out on the staff in front of them. So if you’re going—go on line first & upload everything you can. Bring all of your documents w/ you & be kind & patient w/ the people who are doing their very best to help us all out & send us home w/ what we need.
