On this day in 1899, E. B. White was born. He was, in my opinion, the greatest letter writer.
I mean. How could you even reply?
Just look at this. In a letter.
Here he is writing to a bunch of kids, on the subject of libraries. Gorgeous.
"What did you bring that book that I don't want to be read to out of up for?"
That'll do. I need to make dinner. If you don't have it already, get a copy of LETTERS OF E. B. WHITE. It is, without a doubt, one of the best books I own, and I can think of no other letter collection to which I return more often.
