Corpus Christi let me put y’all on game real quick. Imma give y’all a portion of something we are seeing in the hospital to hopefully help let y’all know how serious this is. Thread is going to be a little lengthy but I’ll put the pic in each tweet for reference.
This is an ABG - arterial blood gas. Shows us how well you’re lungs are able to move oxygen into the body and remove CO2 from the body. The more CO2 you retain the more acidic your blood is, see the 7.11. Our normal pH is 7.35-7.45, severe acidosis near 6.8 leads to shock/death.
Our oxyhemoglobin/PO2/O2 relate to each other. They tell us how well we are oxygenating and how well our blood binds to oxygen. The patients PO2 - partial pressure of oxygen - is 49.
Partial pressure of oxygen measures the pressure of oxygen dissolved in the blood and how well oxygen is able to move from the airspace of the lungs into the blood where we need it for our body. Our (PO2) partial pressure is normally 80-100.
Our saturation (O2 saturation) is indicative of the percentage of oxygen in our blood - for example healthy people saturate 95% and above with just 21% of oxygen in our atmosphere. this patient is saturating at 79% while receiving 100% oxygen through a ventilator.
Furthermore the patient even has added pressure to help increase the amount of air that stays in the lungs and it still ain’t enough. Wear ya masks, stay home (if you can), take them precautions, and stay safe 😷😷😷😷
