how to add trigger warnings on tweets, a thread.
first, i'm gonna explain the preferable format, then i'll move onto some common mistakes.
common things that need trigger warnings: suicide, self harm, body image, eating disorders, weight, food, nsfw material, and any other topic that is sensitive or triggering.
state the trigger. don't censor it.

ex: tw // nsfw

some people have certain words muted for their safety/comfort. when you censor it like this:

ex: tw // n*fw

the trigger bypasses the mute system and the person who muted the word will still see the post.
put space between the tw and the triggering material.

ex: tw // nsfw

(triggering content)

this makes sure people are aware of the triggering content before seeing it. some people may see the material before the warning. the space adds extra safety.
some things you shouldn't do
1. if you post triggering material, the worst thing you can do is not put a tw on it. people who are sensitive to triggering material may see this content and get extremely upset.
2. don't censor the trigger. the muting feature is very helpful for those who are sensitive to triggering material. it prevents them from seeing the triggering material. when you mute the word, your post shows up on their timeline.
3. don't put a font on the trigger warning. the muting system doesn't register fonts. some phones cannot see certain fonts. be helpful and don't try to make the warning aesthetic. it's harmful for so many reasons.
i hope this helps you to add more helpful trigger warnings on your posts. it protects people from seeing things that may cause damage to them. be kind, and warn people when you post something that's triggering. đź’›
@/_silliard informed me that if you add extra characters to a triggering word, it also bypasses the mute system!

don't do this;

tw//trigger word

please do this:

tw // trigger word
