I’m taking a break doing yard work, and I’m thinking about how the average American doesn’t know much about policy; however, they simply have standard needs that need to be met within legislation that would make their lives more comfortable. Then the thought occurred to me...
Within my life, no Presidential term has ever affected me directly from a policy perspective. Then I thought about how normally the Black community praises Pres. Obama, but honestly, from a policy perspective even his policies didn’t do much to help the average person.
Then I realized the love he gets is more or less based on who he is, his [perceived] character, the grace and elegance he brought to the office of President of the USA, & the fact that he handled adversity with the utmost class. President Obama essentially an esteemed gentleman.
He’s cool. How can you not like him? However, whenever you think about his Presidency, you only remember a few things, but mostly, the optics of who he is as a man. Now, this isn’t an indictment on him or his Presidency but this is about the American people, collectively.
Maybe I’m wrong, but it feels like likeabilty matters more than actual policy to the American public. Beyond everything I’ve learned in politics thus far, the biggest lessons I’ve learned isn’t policies or political ideology, but the behavior of people more than anything else...
Essentially, people have to know better in order to demand better from their politicians, and especially their governments.

Back to work I go...
