*** Umm Salamah appreciation thread***

I can truly say that my role model is Umm Salamah (May Allah be pleased with her). She was one of the early Muslims and a strong woman role model for us all. Let’s take a look at her life:

FYI: It's long but worth it iA :)
1)She had a difficult past Since she and her husband (Abu Salamah) were from amongst the first Muslims, they faced a lot of torment and hardships from the non-Muslim Makkans.
After about four years and change of such torment, she and her husband were allowed by the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to make the journey to Abyssinia.
I have to say, she called Abyssinia “The best of places, with the best of neighbours”
Anyways, when they finally did return to Makkah and decided to emigrate to Madinah, like the other Muslims at the time, their families stepped in.
Her husband’s family seized their child, her own family held her back, which left her husband to go ahead to Madinah on his own. She would spend this time walking off in despair, waiting to be reunited with her family.
Eventually her husband’s family returned her child to her, and she decided to take on this journey alone. Along the way, she met Uthman ibn Talhah (May Allah be pleased with him) who escorted her safely to Madinah.
2)She cared for what some would call “political correctness” The Qur’an addresses the believers in a neutral tone, which is denoted in Arabic with the male tense of words.
She once asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) why the Muslim women were not explicitly mentioned in the Qur’an for making Hijrah? Allah Almighty liked this question and revealed verses in which women were explicitly mentioned.

Other such incidents are in books of Tafsir.
3)This amazing Advice: The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) one saw a dream in which he saw himself going to Makkah for the Umrah pilgrimage along with his companions.
All the Muslims were excited due to this dream, especially the Makkans, who were returning home after years! Long story short, the Makkan enemies refused the Muslims entry and an agreement was signed that highly disadvantaged the Muslims.
The over-zealous Muslims were not happy with this agreement, and especially despised the clause that stated that they would have to return home that year without performing the pilgrimage.
When the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed the believers to shave off their heads, and take off their Ihrams, not a single soul moved. As he entered his tent, he mentioned this problem to his wife Umm Salamah.
She advised him to go outside, and first shave off his own head, and surely enough the Muslims followed. For how cam someone wish to perform the pilgrimage without the Prophet?
All in all, if you look at her narrations, you will find that she was not afraid to ask the hard questions. She would generally narrate Ahadith regarding women’s issues actually, and was a well-composed, strong woman. A woman that we all should know about.
