On the advice of @Kaisermod, I will play as Russia. I've set the goal for myself to remake the Warsaw Pact in this timeline without restoring the Tsardom or going to authoritarianism.
I looked at the focus tree last night, but haven't taken the game off pause yet. Let's start.

Welp, the standard day-one-dance has been done, so let's take this off pause. Looks like I won't be able to do any National Focuses without some in-game event firing.
Aaaaaand there's the in-game event.
So does this mean I can finally do some focuses?
I'm going to try to make this Russia reasonably democratic, so we're going with Dimitry. That said, we are going to go for Empower the Senate.
And now this world's version of commies are up to something in Western Europe. Ironically, this game could wind up with a democratic Russia going to war against a Marxist Western Europe.

And I can finally do a national focus to establish an intel agency. Looks like I can eventually get Commissars out of this. Nice.
Well this has been a turbulent few months in-game. Striking workers, peasant unrest, and a massive economic crash. I'm producing 3 rifles a day after all the modifiers.
And America is now split between 5 sides. We'll see where that goes. For my part, I'm finally stabilizing the economy now that I can actually do some of those focuses.
The political crisis has abated, and Dimitry is now firmly entrenched as the President of a primarily aristocratic republic. That said, worker's rights have been greatly expanded (mainly because those options were the best way to regain stability, but don't tell them that).
Now it's time to modernize the army and start looking at the Caucasus region.
We are going to go for Mobile Warfare doctrine.
Oooh. Civil war in the Baltics. This could be useful.
This unholy mess is the current state of America. I have an attache with the Pacific States right now.
Well this is awkward. Just in time for a lunch break, too.
Messier than I would have liked, but it ended with only about five thousand Russian casualties.
And the French and Germans have at last gone to war. Let's see where this one goes.
Time to start reclaiming the Caucasus.
Well that was a splendid little war. 3 weeks and 3k casualties to reclaim the entire country.
After a rather messy war against Turkmenistan, it's time to turn our attention to Germany's Reichspakt.
It is now 1941 and the Marxists seem to be having the better time of it in Europe and America. It seems like an opportune time to restore the Russian empire and then some.
And here we go.
5 months in and we're almost at the borders of the German Empire. Russian casualties: 87 thousand. Reichspakt casualties (From Russian troops): 1.5 million.
Funnily enough, this war has led to about 30 German divisions getting encircled and destroyed at Masuria, near the location of the Battle of Tannenberg.
Austria has hopped in. It shouldn't be too much longer before the war is over.
The end of the war. A democratic Russia has now occupied Eastern Europe, while the Marxists hold Western Europe and America. Meanwhile, Japan has gained control over most of the Pacific nations and is hungrily eyeing the rest of Asia.
And with that, I think I'm going to call it. This has been a great playthrough, and I can't wait to try more of the mod. Once again, thanks to @Kaisermod for suggesting Russia. It's been a blast.
