Writing x Design

I've been writing for quite some time. However, I recently started to design (a little bit) after being inspired by the impact of @visualizevalue on my thought process.

Here's a thread of all that I have learnt in the past couple of months 👇
When you write, it brings clarity to your own thoughts.
When you design, it brings clarity to the reader's thoughts.

As a result, communication is improved. Hence, more impactful.
If you're a writer trying to design, squeeze all your words into a design.

If you're a designer trying to write, expand your design into a lot of words.
Writing provides context to your design.

Design provides direction to your writing.
When you think of your words in terms of design, your language and flow improve.

When you think of your design with words, your attention to detail and sharpness improve.

That's how these two complement each other.
'Less is More' works with both design and writing.

When you combine few words with a minimalist design, the joint outcome is exponentially more detailed.

Less + Less = Huge
Curiosity + Satisfaction is a good combination template.

If your design is curious, make your words satisfying.
If your words are curious, make your design satisfying.

If you can do both curios / satisfying and still keep it interesting, that's genius.
With words, we tell a story.
With design, we live a story.

Comics have both. Maybe, that's why / how we love them so much.
Greatest realizations come with words.
Greatest explanations come through design.

Write to realize. Design to explain those realizations.
Very natural to sub-consciously fall into a specific style of writing or design.

Iterate. Experiment.

Be quirky with your design and surprising with your words.

Don't settle.
If you're good at writing, write first and design second.
If you're good at designing, design first and write second.

Start with the stronger skill, not the weaker one. Why?

Raise your subsidiary skill to the level of your primary skill.

Don't compromise.
That's all. Share your learning of writing x design.
