I agree to some extent. Schools and colleges should be interested in teaching and imparting knowledge to one and all and making people ready for life and not conducting rat races for academic excellence.
But at the end of the day when you reach a certain level - academic excellence matters and carries 90% weightage in most places. Soft skills etc do matter but only to probably pick the best among few good ones.
On the other hand no one has any problem when sporting events and other extra curricular events are conducted with pomp and show and prizes distributed in the grandest of functions. Why doesn't anyone say anything about this ! I am sure the ones who didn't win feel bad !?
This post is after seeing a post where a parent has posted congratulating their kid's academic achievement and people condemning it saying it's wrong and sets high expectations etc. Why is it ok for non academic achievements to be celebrated and not for academic excellence ?!

The one acheives academic excellence is a "nerd"/"padhaku"/"bookworm" etc .. but the the one who wins in sports is the hero ! The champ ! And everything good ! Why ?!
