(1/9) Week 27 update. Retroactive revisions of deaths in week 26 but the trend remains intact. After 6 weeks since reported cases surged there is still a consistent decline in ICU admissions and deaths. Surprisingly, cases also dropped in week 27 (-38%). https://twitter.com/EffectsFacts/status/1281160356291842048?s=20
(2/9) The disconnect between cases and deaths prevails. Unfortunately, I do not know why case counts imploded last week. Possibly the surge in detected cases was driven by the sudden availability of free tests, and now testing+cases drop as the pent-up demand has been satisfied?
(3/9) I decided to test this hypothesis by looking at testing. Apparently, there has been no apparent decline in the demand for tests. Important to note that the case count reported could be the result of a mix of PCR and antibody tests (please help me confirm this).
(4/9) Regardless, it is not impossible that it has genuinely become more difficult to find active cases despite of the 508% increase in testing. If that is true, would it in turn indicate that Sweden is approaching true community immunity in the greater population?
(5/9) Disclaimer: we are not free of potential sources of error. For example, if PCR/antibody tests are mixed, we could be gradually testing more people that apply for tests because they can rather than because they believe that they have been infected.
(6/9) Stockholm. Still a persistent decrease in ICU admissions and deaths. After 6 weeks there is no uptick in either metric despite the surge in cases from week 22 and on.
(7/9) Because of the upward revision of deaths week 26 cases/deaths has changed. When the numbers are small even minor revisions have a notable impact on the ratio. Despite the massive drop in detected cases the ratio for week 27 is still ~10x the historical avg.
(8/9) The same goes for Stockholm that recorded 9 deaths with Covid19 in week 27 (the bar doesn’t show in the diagram anymore).
(9/9) Week 27 and this unfortunately still holds true: If you find someone consciously misleading people using Sweden, don’t hesitate to confront them. It is no longer possible to dispute the data and therefore unacceptable to spread misinformation on this topic.
