A thread: the actions of @realDonaldTrump expose a dangerous flaw in our current system of governance. He has literally violated every norm and every precedent of US presidential conduct in both domestic and foreign affairs. 1/ https://twitter.com/maxboot/status/1281944050350919680
2/ our founding fathers only gave us one way to get rid of a rogue president in office: impeachment. What they did not account for is a non-impartial, partisan Senate. Make us unable to remove a criminal, unethical, immoral man from office.
3/ Trump has literally shattered our norms as to what we expect from our presidents: leadership, empathy, loyalty to the flag, respectability, unity, and transparency. He offers none of that. He divides us everyday. All the time.
4/ the Congress has failed badly in keeping oversight responsibility of the executive under article I. Not because they haven’t tried but because Trump won’t comply. Again, he shatters our constitution and the checks and balances standard they held dear.
5/ finally, he pardons war criminals and his friends who are criminals (i.e. #RogerStone ) in broad daylight. And we can do nothing to stop him. Our system of co-equal governance is broken. Badly.
Trump broke it wide open.
