25 yrs after Srebrenica, our attention has waned. New problems arise as conflicts are no longer about swathes of territory, but multi-nation, multipolar conflicts, from the so-called 'war on terror' that disrupted great part of MENA, to the power competition between East & West.
As the style of warfare changed, large nations within UN themselves are showing the exact behaviour - spreading hate and fear through propaganda and misinformation against other nations, ethnic groups and political movements - that lead to WW2, and the Srebrenica genocide itself.
The style changed from direct bombing & killing with weapons by deployed troops, to the mass spread of propaganda & misinformation, funding of local groups that fight against the enemy, and the starving of people to death through economical sanctions and embargos.
In many places, populism gave way to nationalism, while politicians -and their mouthpieces- use social media & MSM to widen political, racial, ethnic & religious divides. Recent history has proven that we haven’t learned from disasters like Srebrenica, that is remembered today.
Radical islamist groups were funded & supported, to cause disorder in Iraq & Syria. The same applied for Syria’s ‘rebel opposition’. Misinformation was spread, such as the OCPW’s Douma scandal, in which a chemical attack "committed under command of Bashar al-Assad" was staged.
Propaganda wars against China, Russia & Iran were started by the US government, Israel, Saudi Arabia, & other 'western' countries, their journalist mouthpieces & think-tanks. At the same time, the Muslim Brotherhood attempts to spread their own version of Islam & politics.
Dozens of countries were heavily sanctionized, as its civilians struggle to fulfill their basic needs. Populist, far-right leaders came to power, as racism yet again grows in eastern Europe.
The war in Yemen drags on with the US-backed Saudi coalition committing horrible crimes against the starving Yemeni nation, a church is turned into a Mosque in Erdogan’s neo-ottoman wake, Libya is torn apart by violence, and Israel keeps on annexing & occupying Palestinian land.
The UN is failing the whole world today, as it has failed Srebrenica and the Dutchbatters. Human rights have become a slogan, that ‘Western’ governments use to invade, destroy and propagate freely, and the UN has become a tool to whitewash their goals.
