Kentaro Miura is a pioneer of the manga industry. His ability to narrate stories that are not just visually stunning but carry the same level of detail in plot and characters is unrivaled. On occasion of his 55th birthday, it's time we take a look back at his journey: A thread
Miura was born on July 11,1966 in the Chiba prefecture of Japan to parents who were both artists. His father did storyboards for commercials and his mother taught art.
At age 7 ,1973 Miura began experimenting with drawing in a notebook and by age 10 while still in primary school, he had already started work on his first ever manga "Miuraranger" which ended up spanning an impressive 40 volumes.
One year later 1997, Miura was working on his next work entitled "Ken e No Michi" or "The Way Of The Sword" - his first work drawn using indian ink. By 1979 and in middle school, he had begun using rasters for his work and had oriented himself to use professional drawing methods.
In 1982, he enrolled in an artistic curriculum in high school, where he met life long friends and fellow mangaka Shizuya Wazarai ("Cestus") and Mori Kouji ("Holyland" and "Suicide island"). Soon after he would publish his first doujin in a fan produced magazine at the age of 16.
