So 4 covid + cases found in our society now and likely more.

The lady who was taken to hospital yesterday is being brought back today because per day cost 50k - they can't afford.

Her family likely has more positive cases, but they aren't testing.
They broke their back with one 500k day in hospital. She hasn't recovered but they are bringing her home anyway.

The municipal people aren't testing, simply recommended testing at private lab. They likely won't afford that either.
Our entire wing is under lockdown. Can't go in/out other than 9-11am daily and that too with a lot of questioning about whether it is necessary and only for people not on the floors the cases are from.

Many people verging on panic now.
Most of the people had hunkered down and somehow managed the lockdown on savings, etc.

No one is prepared for cases to be found. Many families aren't able to meet expenses, let alone be mentally prepared for the hospital costs of a case being found.
Society "leaders" - even the ones who talk of others as ignorant are themselves unaware of a lot of things. For example, members of the families with the patients still come down to the gate to receive their deliveries.

I suggested volunteering to ferry essentials. Nope.
Everyone is scared. No one wants to set up a volunteering system to deliver essentials to the quarantined homes. They would rather risk those people figuring it out on their own while they hide in their own homes.

Basically putting the security guards at risk rather than self.
I was thinking of doing it myself, but with Raghu gone, I am literally the only able adult standing in the home. I get infected, this whole home goes for a toss.

Others are two aged women and one disabled kid. Selfish as it sounds, I also can't risk volunteering solo.
Society members were gathered below when I went to get some deliveries. Got the feeling that basic decency was holding them back and one person suggesting that the patient no be allowed to enter the building will result in a mob denial of them entering own home.
But so far they are compassionate to their plight also, regardless of own fears.

Keeping an eye out, though I don't think anyone is going to be the first one to cast that stone. They are just hoping someone else says it.
This is small town India for you. Frankly, can't blame them. Money scales differently here.

For eg, you can rent a pretty good 1RK flat in our building for 4k and a 1BHK for 5k.

Per month.

We are talking of hospital costs of 50k per day.
I don't think anyone in our building would manage a 10 day hospitalization at 50k easily. The more affluent families may struggle somehow and manage. Most people would remain home.

Sarkari facilities are full. No space.
My mom has already come to tell me twice that if she gets infected, to not take her to a hospital. She'd rather die than see all her life's achievement of savings wiped out and live a broke old age.

Told me plans for distancing at home. Normally I'd eyeroll at her paranoia, BUT
But while she suffers from paranoia, is it really paranoia if they are really out to get you?

The woman returning from hospital while still ill made me listen very seriously. This was a woman deciding about her life's savings here.

Not that I'd let her die without treatment.
Not even the man dying has brought reality home to people here as strongly as the woman who is returning from hospital without recovering because she can't afford it.

Death is still a part of life. This has people rattled.
