All right, thread to flesh out yesterday's tweet: using "Marxist" and "communist" as an epithet to frame someone as dangerous when you have neither seriously engaged with the person or their thought, especially if you have never read Marx, is a breaking of the ninth commandment.
"Ninth commandment?" Yes. Bearing false witness against your neighbor.

Westminster says that a few of the duties of that commandment are "a charitable esteem of our neighbors; loving, desiring, and rejoicing in their good name". Doesn't seem to be a lot of that going around.
Also: "a ready receiving of a good report, and unwillingness to admit of an evil report, concerning them."

In short, much of Twitter trolling appears to be actually, demonstrably sinful. Instead, brothers and sisters, let's be charitable. But especially with the Marxist thing.
Because it appears that the epithet is used to dismiss someone (particularly and for decades, Christians who care about racial justice) as "anti-American" when really they (we) care about loving their neighbors wisely and well.
In short (obviously, there's more), the book of Acts gives us plenty of examples of giving according to our ability to others according to their need. Doesn't make me a fan of violent societal overthrow, y'all. Don't break that ninth commandment, for the sake of your own soul.
