Ever been to a conference where folks keep saying "I wish my boss/manager could hear this"?

Seemingly common in the Agile and Tech space.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be at such a conference as the boss/manager person?

I can camouflage to fit in, so I know...
You'll learn managers are complete twats and fair game for derogatory jokes. They're distrustful nincompoops doing their best to destroy the system and don't know anything about your work.

Fair enough. That happens. I just wonder, how much management have the speaker done?
You'll sit in on a case study on cool technology where the cost of implementation & ownership was inflated many times and hear the conclusion:

This wasn't needed, but it was fun and cool so I would recommend you do this anyway and your manager won't know.

Well I do now.
You'll attend a open space session where developers argue the best way to jam a new technology into the project, not because it's needed but because they want to try it out.

Being honest about the thing being fun and new and might provide value later never enters the picture.
Heated discussion regarding why techies aren't trusted happens, dumb managers just misled on technology choices should simply be more trusting.

Also, we don't need to actually teach them anything they ought to know. And if they don't well then they're obviously stupid, or evil.
You'll leave the venue feeling out of place.
Wondering why you listened to the "they should be here".

You'll likely feel more ostracized, you too trapped in a system that heavily influence what you can do and others not caring to learn your constraints.

Or at least. That's me.
