Ariella Aisha Azoulay’s letter to Slyvia Wynter miss the point entirely. The letter does exude confindence though.
In the post 1492 world that inaugurated transatlantic slavery the jewishness, muslimness, christian-ness of the captured Black did not matter, another order of logic was at play. The Black flesh of the captive was at stake not religois practice or designation.
In fact the logic was such that only the flesh could be contemplated for capture. Roland Judy made this argument long ago as a part of his argument on the slave narratives in Disforming the Canon. Judeo-Christian marks thought/ideology not identity or practices per se even
though that comes to mark whiteness too.
