This thread keeps haunting me as I have noticed this time and again. I’m not sure this is necessarily about perceived race (as a brown person who “sounds” English) but a discrimination we need to be aware of nonetheless. foreign accent, talked to like they’re idiots. Sound right (my own privilege included), make the right jokes and references and life is smoother. I don’t blame ppl for this as such, probably quite a natural social response. But is it how we build our workforce and provide care?
(I’ve written and deleted a version of this tweet for a few weeks now. Feels like a scary thing to talk about or open myself up to criticism for saying. But for that reason probably an important thing to confront)
