Something that's been bothering me for a while now is how the traditional 'EFIGS' is still being pushed to localize your game in. Italian, aka the 'I', is a low-performing sales region and actually has been for quite some time
Why do I say that?
- Around 25% of all games get translated into Italian
- On average the region has less than 1% of sales for a lot of genres (yes, certain genres might be better performing)
- Steam hardware survey shows that 0.78% of users have Italian as their OS language

So, you might want to know which languages are worth considering over Italian? Simplified Chinese is the super obvious one, it's after English the best performing localization (in some cases outperforming English). Russian, Spanish, French, and German are easy choices too
The most under-estimated language? Brazilian-Portuguese! Only ~15% of all games on Steam are available in that language while it often ranks within the top 5 as a sales region. (It's also 5th in the Steam hardware survey)
Other languages worth investigating? Polish and Turkish. Both ranking quite higher than Italian but with ~14% and ~7.5% of games available in those languages a very under-served region. Turkish is one of the more expensive languages, together with Korean, to localize in though
I'm in no way an expert in this field. These results are entirely based on my own research so take them as you want. I'd always advice anybody to do their own research as numbers are different per genre
Something I forgot to mention and Jake very thankfully pointed out:
Take localization into account when you start a project. Make sure your systems and fonts can handle all languages https://twitter.com/GreyAlien/status/1281937850162970624

This tool by @kerissakti is extremely helpful to look at other games and which languages their reviews are made up of. Comes highly recommended! <3
