Over 150,000 people were watching the Nintendo Treehouse event yesterday on Youtube during the Paper Mario segment at peak..... and as soon as Bakugan was announced it actually dropped to about 50,000. People just completely tuned out.
Nintendo put WayForward in a terrible situation, I actually felt bad. Bakugan might be a very good game, but the way the announcement was worded and the fact that Nintendo fans have been starved for information, it was guaranteed to get backlash.
I'm not excusing poor fan behavior from yesterdays announcement, a little maturity goes a long way, I just feel like from a marketing perspective and Nintendo reading the room, it just fell super flat.
In my opinion, when a game gets more dislikes than likes, at the very first reveal without really seeing much of the game, that is less a quality issue and more a communications/marketing issue, same deal with Pokemon Unite.
