I've always debated whether to share this as it's a little graphic, but I feel it's important as more of us not only come into contact w/ seals but also attempt to "help" seal pups:

We are now entering common / harbour seal pupping season in the UK. If you see a seal on the beach...
Leave. It. Alone.
Mums will leave pups for short periods when they go to feed. A lone pup is OK.
Do: keep your dog on a leash. Dogs can stress or kill seals, even if playing.

Do not: chase them into the water or splash water on them. Seals do not need to be wet to survive. They are also very young and should not swim long distances.
Do not: pick up them and move them along the beach. This can lead to the mum abandoning the seal!

If you are worried about a seal, please call the RSPCA or British Divers Marine Life Rescue. They may ask you to take photos and will send out a rescue team if necessary.
