The liberal mythos is that everyone has some 'authentic self' buried inside them 'repressed' by 'Society', and if you ever show yourself to have a problem they will rush in to explain it in terms of this framework
'It sounds like you may actually be x... maybe you should join our movement to liberate all x's (and maybe you should adopt our terminology, maybe you should start 'calling ppl out', maybe you should start strip-mining your experiences for 'justice' utility, maybe you should)
Meanwhile, I have understood myself in poetry and art and literature, which liberals consider illegitimate if not part of their utilitarian project, because these things are ways of making acquaintance with the world's indifference
The eternal liberal is a salesman trying to sell you infinite+ toys, assuring you that each one is the key to solving your unhappiness, 'a happy life' is right around the corner if only you do x and say y! Only to grow resentful and hostile when you refuse
