It is interesting how Marathi School Historians like D.R. Bhandarkar bend over backwards in trying to reinforce the claim that there are no Kshatriyas, at least not real.

Regional belief bias much?
He tried every bit possible to construe words like Dwija to only mean Brahmin, he uses the excuse that since there are no Kshatriyas in Kaliyuga because of "you know what" myth.
He not only does this but assumes all the sociopolitical and lingusitic intricacies for them whereas a proper historian will let them remain open.
Rama for example is interpreted as Parasurama for him when the Rama is already mentioned to be establishing the glory of the Raghuvamsha in the Guhilot Inscriptions, this led to the cross referencing of malicious misinformation that Guhilots are Brahmins in R.C. Majumdar's work
The only motivation I see is the reinforcement and encroachment of one's beliefs, both political and religious in professional life.

Proto-Hindutva Politics has its roots in bith Bengal and Maharashtra and the works of Bhandarkars form part of its academic-ideological base.
Interesting how the myth of Parasurama also revolves around and is relevant to the local beliefs of the Deccan especially the adjacent Konkan and Malabar coasts. This also explains the total absence of any temples and shrines to him before the rise of the Chitpavan Peshwas.
The fact that Rajputs weren't colonised also reduced our exposure to mainstream Indian historical channel that mostly functioned like a cartel/lobby of the ilk of the likes of Bhandarkar who worked in close connection with early hindutvavadi "scholars".
Bengalis of course were a big part of it with their Post-Raghunandan Bhattacharya era nonsense but we can't overlook the people like D.R. Bhandarkar or even his father R.G. Bhandarkar after whom BORI is named.
We have had many historians like G.S. Ojha, but they were kept out by these guys which was only aggravated by the fact that unlike the British colonial educated Bhandarkar ilk, Ojha's work primarily is in Hindi and vernacular.
