The drug problem started when Wouter Basson and the state security apparatus introduced mandrax to the black and colored townships around Cape Town as a means of paralyzing radical youth politics in those townships.

The Apartheid government created an alliance between drug lords, the police and government sponsored vigilantes such as the witdoeke. That alliance continues to this day!

There are right wing elements in the military and police who are also hoping that flooding black and colored communities with drugs could lead to anarchy and a political collapse that will allow them to reverse history.

A lot of the domestic violence, the violence against women and children and the generalized violence of men on men can be directly attributed to drug and alcohol abuse. While the peddlars are your neighbours the beneficiaries live in gated communities and golf estates.
