C.S. Forester wrote some great novels. He is mostly known for his Hornblower books. Ernest Hemingway is quoted as saying, "I recommend Forester to everyone literate I know.” The movie Captain Horatio Hornblower (1951) with Gregory Peck was based on three of these novels.
C.S. Forester wrote the African Queen in 1935. A lady and a Cockney mechanic are trying to destroy a German cruiser in Africa with their steam-powered launch The African Queen. The novel was made into a great film in 1951, starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn.
The movie Sink the Bismarck! was based on Forester’s The Last Nine Days of the Bismarck (1959). To date, it is the only film made that deals directly with the operations, chase, and sinking of the battleship Bismarck during #WW2. Its historical accuracy met with much praise.
The Pride and the Passion (1957) with Gary Grant, Frank Sinatra en the beautiful Sophia Loren is based on Forester’s novel The Gun (1933). The novel is about an imaginary series of incidents involving a single eighteen-pounder cannon during the Peninsular War (1807-1814.)
Single-Handed is a 1953 war film based on the novel Brown on Resolution by C. S. Forester. A Canadian sailor is serving on a British warship and battles single-handedly to delay a German World War II warship long enough for the Royal Navy to bring it to battle.
C.S. Forester was a great writer of historical fiction and I recommend his books. Here he is in Groucho Marx You Bet Your Life show (1956).😂
