Thoughts at what key vectors edtech in extra-currics should think through and why @whitehatjunior is a great proposition -

1) Kids should find the course cool
2) Parents should link it to future success
3) Outcome tangible and "bragworthy"
4) Pedagogy suited to online

(1/6)
Organic growth is the best growth. Everything works as a charm when a kid himself asks a parent he wants to learn. Kids love to speak in their peer group specially if they are working on something perceived as cool as coding
(2/6)
Double this up when a parent is convinced that the outcome genuinely helps prepare her child for future. This validates her conscience. If she is satisfied, she will definitely refer in her peer group as she is the person who can foresee beyond what is just normal (3/6)
Outcome should be stepwise and tangible. This is why Coding picks much above say debating.
A kid can make a Pacman game and her parent will be sharing it all over social media. Its "Bragworthy". You cannot make a video of your kid debating and share it, its not as cool! (4/6)
Online pedagogy should work for the course. Extra-Currics can vary from singing/ chess which can easily be taught online to Karate where a kid will be fooling himself jumping like Chuck Norris looking at videos.
Bottomline is that course content needs to make sense

Finally there is a real need for quality extracurrics in India. Unlike the west, Indian schooling does a bad job of it. Indian parents want an avenue and online can be one - however focus on quality needs to be there, else churn even offline on these courses are massive! (6/6)
