I’m sure I’ve tweeted this before, but let me tell you: the weapons, orders, minute details of a mission, etc in fiction about soldiers, spies, cops, sci-fi worlds etc etc is the least interesting thing & I will confidently assert that it’s not the best place to start your novel.
On second thought, I’ll change “confidently” to “arrogantly,” as it is an opinion. And a very strong opinion of mine 🤷🏽‍♀️
I’m NOT saying don’t have technical details, I am saying there needs to be a BALANCE and the opening scene of your book needs to be focused on something we can care about and connect to immediately in TODAY’S market if you’re a writer seeking an agent and publication.
There’s a difference between throwing us in the middle of a rescue mission scene where we know the MC is desparate to get his kidnapped partner back and opening your first page with 20 sentences about where everyone is positoned, what weapons are being used, etc etc
