Amplifying again for US profs: It’s super kind that so many are offering to do in-person classes if it saves intl students. *However*, we were talking to an immigration lawyer today & she noted that we have no evidence that individual classes like that would actually work.
Better: Talk to your admin and international office to see what they suggest too. Add your voice to lawsuits & amici briefs. ICE’s statement was so vague that we don’t fully know what counts as “hybrid” yet, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overly confident.
What’s worse: ICE could potentially claim that such work-arounds are illicit and actually constitute visa fraud, thereby harming students even more. We need to advocate for intl students, & simultaneously recognize how little we know re: how this directive might be implemented.
That being said: If we find out that it does work, I’ll gladly proclaim Shenoute’s sermons in Coptic from the Yard to all students and passerby
