Talib Kweli, like most black men will have no smoke against the countless black men (including his hip hop peers) who degrade black women (particularly dark skinned black women), but unabashedly wants to come at a dark skinned black woman for pointing out colorism.
I’m disappointed but I’m not surprised. What she said definitely triggered him and the many colorstruck black men who are currently defending him and pushing a false & already debunked assertion about ‘reverse colorism’. This is why most black men cannot lead this conversation.
This was the perfect opportunity for him to use his big platform to LISTEN to dark skinned black women about colorism perpetuated in hip hop & Hollywood, but he chose to let his humongous ego & narcissism take over and berate black women who have been trying to educate him.
His misogynoir is also not lost on me after seeing the way he’s been harassing the dark skinned black woman who made the original tweet that he quote-tweeted, and the way he’s been aggressively responding to other black women. This is absolutely disgusting.
And no black man with a big platform or industry black man is engaging him to correct him on this. Black women are yet again left to fend for themselves, as black men silently and passively give him the nod because his ignorance about colorism validates their own ignorance.
Many black men simply want to be colorstruck and colorist in peace. Any attempt to make them question their ‘preference’ for lighter skinned black, mixed, white and other non-black women will always be met with immature, angry and child-like tantrums. A regression to infancy.
