I'm a lifelong Democrat. I'll enthusiastically vote & work hard for Dems up and down the ballot this year. But the history books will write that a president colluded with a hostile foreign power to win election, that the evidence was there, and that Dem leaders just... let it go.

All the savvy takes will never undo the fact that Trump colluded with a hostile foreign power and Dems declined to use all the tools at their disposal to investigate. To the contrary, they dissuaded members from doing so and impeached him on an unrelated topic. That's the record.

I've been outflanked to the left by establishment stans! For years it was "don't say impeachment only health care!" Now it's "Dems did good at impeachment!" In politics you win power to use it. Dems declined to use their power to investigate Trump's collusion with Russia. Periodt

Real heads know this has been a "Democrats should use every tool at their disposal to investigate Trump on Russia" account for... well, a bit.

Negative partisanship is saying, "Trump was impeached on Ukraine ergo it's OK Dems declined to pursue his collusion with Russia." I'm glad he was impeached. But dissuading investigations into his collusion with a hostile foreign power will go down as a historic oversight failure.
