And even if we make sidewalks and transit truly accessible, some disabled people will still need automobile access
It’s true that moving away from car-centric cities could really benefit disabled folks. Disabled people are more likely to have lower incomes, more likely to be killed in collisions, more likely to ride transit
But as BIPOC and disabled planners have been saying over and over, if you implement big changes without centering the most marginalized, cities will only become more exclusionary
And if you are uninterested in thoughtfully engaging with these concerns, then we’re not going to trust you
