BTW, the model for Olympia in Manet's painting, Victorine Meurent, was an artist in her own right. Unfortunately, only one work that can be definitely attributed to her has survived, despite the fact she painted into her 80s and exhibited regularly at Salons.
And Olympia's maid, traditionally ignored in art scholarship (the same sort of scholarship that usually categorized all artist's models as prostitutes without evidence), was modeled by a woman named Laure, who sat for Manet at least two other times.
