LRT: I don’t think it’s true that he got his knighthood specifically for that, but for his services to law generally. However, the fact remains that it is absolutely ABSURD to accuse a human rights lawyer with his record as ‘not wanting to change anything’.
Also, Starmer has said many times that he prefers people not to use his title. He doesn’t put it on any of his official letters or election literature. The only people who think it matters are the Momentum pricks who think you can’t be a socialist if you’re in any way successful.
In their world, a pragmatic realist from a working class background who does incredibly well through his own hard work, innate intelligence and dedication to a cause will never be as left-wing as a privileged privately educated, posh man who cares more about ideology than people.
This is why they all worship Tony Benn. Not that I didn’t admire Tony Benn - I really did. But most of these god-awful twats wouldn’t have been anything like as obsessed with him if he’d been a working class bloke who’d risen to the top. They want us to stay in our lane.
They’re only really interested in working class people as an idea, a project. They just want to pat us on the head at the Durham Miners’ Gala and expect us to be grateful when they tell us what’s good for us. When we actually achieve anything it makes them really fucking nervous.
Remember when Bethnal Green boy Eddie Marsan said he preferred dinner parties to pubs and the middle-class Corbynistas went apeshit because he wasn’t conforming to their weird, romanticised salt-of-the-earth notion of what working class people are like? Classic example.
