It's Friday evening, so lets take a look back at the weekly data around coronavirus in Devon and Cornwall, although given the changes to reporting of the data that happened last Thursday, we don't quite have like-for-like data to look at
The seven days have seen 23 new coronavirus cases added to the dashboard across Devon and Cornwall in both pillar 1 and pillar 2 - we can't compare it to previous weeks as pillar 2 data only was added on mass last Thursday, but it is an average of just 3 new cases a day
Of the 23 new cases, 16 of them were confirmed in the previous seven days, with seven being more historical cases that have been added to the dataset, included one for which the test took place back on March 5, so is of no use for looking at current trends
There is now information available to look at when the test took place and by the data of the specimen. There have been 16 new cases having been confirmed in the last seven days so far, although data from the most recent days may be subject to change.
The previous week (between June 26 and July 2) saw 27 cases confirmed, with the week between (June 19 and June 25) having seen 19 new cases, so while there may be a few more cases added to the data for that period, cases would seem likely for the latest seven day period to drop
In the last seven days, there have been six cases confirmed in Cornwall, the last on July 7, one in Torbay, on July 5, and four in Plymouth, the last on July 6, by the date of specimen.
East Devon has seen 2 new cases, the last on July 6, with 1 in Mid Devon on July 6, and 2in Teignbridge, on July 4. No new cases were confirmed in Exeter, North Devon, the South Hams, Torridge or West Devon, with the last cases on June 20, June 18, June 23, July 1 and June 26
Across the whole of the South West, there have been 74 cases confirmed in the last seven days, down from 96 in the seven days prior to that, with all 29 of the districts in the region reporting an average of less than two new cases a day.
Torridge remains the district in England with the lowest positive case infection rate with the South Hams 3rd, North Devon 4th, West Devon 5th, East Devon 8th, Teignbridge 10th, Cornwall 11th, Exeter 15th, Torbay 21st, Plymouth 39th, and Mid Devon 41st of the 315 districts
Torridge has also had the fewest number of cases of any of the districts, with West Devon 2nd, and the South Hams and North Devon also in the bottom five.
Across the South West, the number of people in hospital with COVID-19 has dropped by a third in the previous week, going from 48 on July 3 down to 33 on July 10.
Certainly as of yet, there doesn't appear to have any significant increase in cases as a result of the relaxing of the lockdown measures. A tiny rise in weekly cases across the whole of the South West in the last week, but it is less than one additional case a case on average
The impact of the reopening of the hospitality industry last Saturday isn't known yet as it is probably too soon for any new cases as a result of it to be passed on to someone who then developed symptoms, got tested, and has the result back and added to the data
In terms of cases, probably won't see the effect, if any, until next week, but across the South West, 111 calls having slightly risen over the last few days, dropped today and to below the level they were at last Friday, and this may be where the first signs, if any, are seen
There have obviously been the reports of the two cases linked to pubs in Burnham-on-Sea, but doesn't appear based on what has been said that these were caused by the pubs being open (timings don't work for the first one) - Sedgemoor FYI has seen just two cases recorded this week
Next week there will be a bit more of a weekly comparision as we will have figures for two complete weeks and so can see if the cases, both confirmed, and by date of specimen, are rising or falling in the region with something to compare to
Would obviously like the number of cases to fall further, but at the moment, there is an average of just over 3 cases a day being confirmed across all of Devon and Cornwall - more than 2 million people. Still need to be vigilent, but signs still heading in the right direction
Hopefully this time next week we can still say the same and that the impact of the reopening of some parts of the hospitality sector hasn't had a significant negative impact and number of cases continue to stay at the very low levels they are now
Should also add - Friday's figures saw just one new case added, in Plymouth, with the specimen from July 5. No new cases added anywhere else in Devon or in Cornwall
And the usual caveats about these only being the reported cases, but covers anyone who has had a test and tested positive. May be (probably is) others out there with covid but no symptoms, but obviously unless you get tested, there isn;'t going to be any data around
