relevant anecdotal evidence re: stimulants calming #ADHD brains
I was feeling my hyperactivity today - having animated convos in my head, dancing around, thoughts racing - took an adderall and I'm now sitting at my computer, researching an article

why does this work?
my understanding is that #ADHD brains lack dopamine, the reward chemical, and also norepinephrine, the motivation chemical, which is synthesized from dopamine

this means: we feel less pleasure from things that stimulate neurotypicals, so we may become impulsive or reckless in seeking that pleasure feeling, and/or completely lack all motivation for mundane tasks.
taking a stimulant raises dopamine levels in the brain, meaning we no longer feel the need to seek stimulation by bouncing, dancing, socializing, etc.
I'm not a neurologist, just speaking from lived experience and a perusing of Google scholar articles, so pls correct me if I'm wrong, scientists, but it seems like it's not a "calming" so much as it is a balancing of chemicals.
