I'm helping my parents do their wills finally and we are going the online route because 1) it's cheaper and 2) one top shot lawyer in Toronto told me these are valid wills.

I've been pushing my mom and dad to do this as they get older, it's an uncomfortable thing but needed.
*NOTE* --- This isn't some promotional thing for the site we end up using or anything. I don't care what "others" are doing but I would like to share the information with all of you just in case, might be useful.

So keep your snarky comments to yourself.
We will be doing theirs on LegalWills because it's been around forever and I've read really good reviews about it.

I'm going to live tweet the process and info because I feel like A LOT of our parents don't want to spend $1000 on lawyers fees. https://www.legalwills.ca/
The lawyer man did say tho (I'll add) that these online wills are for "simple" family situations so no like multi-million dollar fortunes or foreign land to deal with.

I'm an only child. It's just me + mom and dad. No family in Canada. No foreign assets. We are the "simple"
He also told me the two biggest issues he's seen in court with wills are 1) were the people of sound mind when doing the will and 2) the witnesses you choose to sign off on the will.
Canadian law doesn't allow for wills to be digitally signed, so you have to finish it online and have two people physically sign it.

Big big deal is - NO ONE WHO WILL GET ANYTHING FROM THE ESTATE CAN SIGN.

So use a close friend or close coworker. No family.
Will continue thread when we begin 🙏
