Myth: Bitcoin fees have only increased over time and will eventually pay for security.

Fact: Bitcoin fees have decreased for three years in a row.

2018: 26k BTC, 0.15% SB
2019: 21k BTC, 0.12% SB
2020: 16k BTC, 0.09% SB (annualized)
After being accused of "cherry picking" my data, I expanded the chart to include more years, 2012-2016.

SB from fees has only been lower than today in two out of eight years: 0.04% in 2014 and 0.06% in 2015.
*If* you care about SB (and I understand that many of you don't seem to do), then there is no substantial uptrend of security from fees over time.
