I made the mistake of listening to @BBCradio4 podcast "Girl Power RIP", it seems the #BBC is doing its best to deal a lethal blow to #feminism with this hideous example of "journalism". After receiving a rape threat this wasn't what I wanted to hear. /1 https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08hqh12
The thing that irked me the most was the the interview with Julie Bindel who was effectively claiming that women who don't just assertively tell men to fuck off and get upset by harassment/abuse are somehow weak & not proper feminists ... #VictimBlaming much? /2
It turns out the journalist who made the programme, Ella Whelan is the assistant editor Spiked (a far right platform, known for dodgy journalism), I literally listened to another BBC programme a few days ago about how they published fake news & refused to remove it. /3
So here we have a nice example of the @BBC platforming an editor from a very dodgy far right platform, who is in turn platforming a #TERF from the new right movement and this is legitamised as "objective journalism". /7
There are many examples of #BBC realigning to the far right "in line with public opinion", for example, the dominance of right wing commentators on #BBCQT (just think of Nigel Farage's unjustifiable number of appearances, compared to equivalent figures on the left) /8
Or platforming "journalists" such as Tom Hardwood who writes for alt-right blog, Guido Fawkes, & thus the BBC legitimises extremist views from the right wing as "objective journalism" /9
Incidentally, when did you ever hear the BBC interview or give an editorial position to a journalist from @theNewEuropean Newspaper which is surely a more legitimate publication than Guido Fawkes or Spiked? /10
You can argue "If the BBC is being criticised by both sides then it is clearly doing a good job"... Except that level of criticism is no measure of impartiality, it just means the side with more resources to throw at lobbying will have more influence on the BBC's agenda /11
Additionally, those that consider the @BBC's role to be "representing public opinion", should consider the platforming a climate change deniers or anti-vaxxers to bring "balance" to a debate. Rather than reporting fact based information & expert opinion. /12
The BBC's job is not to reflect, but to shape public opinion. So as long as they are platforming radical right wingers, instead of educated experts, they are perpetuating narratives of hate which will continue to infect our society, and lead to misery in people's lives. /13
The UK has no chance of being an equal, tolerant, happy society until the issue of the right-wing biased press is addressed, and the @BBC changes to informing & educating, not platforming extremist opinions under the false pretence of "impartiality". /14
Case in point, on what planet is this a "balanced" panel?
