Since the National Council for the Humanities meets this week with @NEHchair, we want to share the history behind this event and why it’s so important! [Thread]
In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson formed the National Council on the Humanities, which included celebrated architect I. M. Pei.
Each member of the National Council on the Humanities is appointed by the President, confirmed by the Senate, and serves a staggered term. Past council members have included historian John Hope Franklin and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Excited to announce that the National Council will be reviewing more than 1,000 grant applications July 9-10. Due to the pandemic, @NEHChair and 23 members of the National Council will complete their review virtually.
