dear friends,

friendly reminder that the gospel doesn't say "don't give to the needy because they didn't work as hard as you to earn what you have"

it LITERALLY SAYS "give to those who cannot repay you" (Luke 14: 13-14)
While some many interpret this literally (ie: invite the poor to dinner) it should mean much more than that.

We should be giving to those who cannot repay us. So please yes let's fund healthcare and housing and education and food access.
Americanism tells us that hard work will give us what we need in life, and blinds our ability to see the sins of greed and pride.

We were not created to own wealth or make money. We were created to serve one another.
Following this train of thought....

so many of us are in debt to banks, insurance companies, loans etc.

But really we have forgotten of the debt we have to the poor, the imprisoned, the widow, the orphan as Jesus commanded us. That debt doesn't go away when we die.
last salty take: while I don't think everyone needs to live a life of extreme charity, I do believe that thinking about investments, savings accounts, 401K funds, profits more than you think of the poor merits examination and prayer to better live a life of holiness.
